Four Letter Word for NYTimes Crossword Pattern
Ok, I could have come up with a better headline, but I did naht-see this one coming...
In the ongoing story of the New York Times doing weirdly fash-friendly things for no reason that anyone can really ascertain - we now have the return of the swastika crossword puzzle.
On the first day of Hanukah, the paper of record decided to publish a crossword that likely went through multiple edits, views by editors on top of the team doing the layout on the New York Times Magazine. Inexplicably the crossword looks like the swastika.
No word if it was created by the woodland creatures of the “intellectual dark web” or just another time the grey old lady missed the forest for the trees.
At the time I hit publish on this story the New York Times has not issued a statement on this much-discussed story.
I happened to pick up the physical paper before I even saw people sharing screenshots of the digital version of the crossword. I couldn’t believe it until I opened up the NY Times magazine and saw it myself.
Does this actually mean anything other than the people that run what is widely considered the most important American newspaper currently printed can’t recognize a swastika when they see it? I don’t think so. I find that idiocy is more often the real story behind any conspiracy.
That said, this is not the first time they’ve done this. This tweet is from 2017.
