SCOTUS' Rules in Favor of Voter Suppression and White Supremacy

The Supreme Court just ruled that Virginia can go ahead and purge voters based on a conspiracy that non-citizens are voting.

The US Supreme Court ruled today that Virginia may go ahead with its registration purge of 1600 supposed non-citizens just days before the 2024 election. Journalists have already found many that are citizens, and eligible to vote in Virginia. The National Voting Rights Act does not allow for voter registrations to be removed from the rolls less than 90 before the election. Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order expediting the purge on August 7th, 2024 - exactly 90 days before November 5th.

That is what U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles referred to in her ruling which has now been stayed, “a clear violation of the 90-day quiet provision,” adding, “It is not happenstance that this executive order was announced on the 90th day.”

The President of the Georgia NAACP Gerald Griggs said the ruling was “the courts playing politics.” Attorney Griggs, an expert in voting rights told investigative journalist Greg Palast in the documentary film, Vigilantes INC.: America’s New Vote Suppression Hitmen, which exposes the effect citizen voter challenges will have on voting rights, that he expected 2024 to be “the wild wild west when it comes to election challenges.” It seems that he was right.

Palast told me that  “this will empower the voter vigilantes challengers [as seen in Vigilantes INC.] because it's allowing challenges to voters within the 90-day period which is prohibited by the National Voting Rights Act. Doing challenges this close to the election does not give voters a chance to respond to the accusations or removal.”

Virginia isn’t the only state that currently has taken up this non-citizen purge, Alabama previously challenged 3,200 people to prove their citizenship. As of September 30th at least 717 so far have turned out to actually be citizens according to reporting by The Guardian’s Sam Levine

Georgia’s Republican Brad Raffensperger has also been pushing this lie from the website of the Secretary of State’s office. He’s calling for more legislation preventing non-citizens from voting, (it’s already very illegal) via the claim that Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight wants them to be allowed to do so (also not true).

Not surprisingly, Trump’s former Vice Chair of his Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity and Kansas’ Attorney General, Kris Kobach who led the nationwide voter purge program Crosscheck joined 27 Republican AG’s in an amicus brief supporting the late-in-the-election purge.

Kobach said in a press release that “It has always been against the law for noncitizens to vote, every vote cast by a noncitizen effectively cancels out the vote of a U.S. citizen. It is unconscionable that Democrats and activist judges are fighting to keep them on the rolls.”

The Brennan Center for Justice, an organization that tracks voting and voter suppression called non-citizen voting “vanishingly rare.” It’s already illegal, and comes with hefty jail time.

The non-citizen voting conspiracy has resurfaced this year as a major Republican talking point in the 2024 election. Earlier this month I filmed former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan claiming that the Biden administration was purposely allowing migrants to cross the US/Mexico border so that they could vote. Homan, who will be part of a new Trump administration, recognized that this wild claim is an integral part of the white supremacist Great White Replacement Theory

Who unsecured a border purpose? This isn't an accident. This isn't incompetence. This is by design folks, they own it. We say. Why? Well, they obviously perceive a future political advantage, thinking maybe they're future Democratic voters. But don't say that. Don't say that's a racial statement. That's a great white replacement theory. Call it what you want. There's got to be a reason to unsecure the border. They think many people may be Democratic voters, but they don't even have to get there. For when Joe Biden signed 94 executive orders, killing everything we did that gave us the most secure border in my lifetime. He also overturned the Trump census rule which millions of people release in the sanctuary cities across this country will be counted in the next census.

Homan said this at a yearly festival that celebrates Trump and guns and is paid for by gun manufacturer Kahr Arms, which is owned by a son of deceased cult leader, Reverend Moon. Other speakers included Jack Posobiec who pushed the Pizzagate conspiracy and a pastor who believed that there were literal demonic witches in Pennsylvania. Homan received a ‘National Freedom’ award from the other son of Rev. Moon, Sean who wears a crown of bullets and runs a cult that worships the AR-15.

“Illegals” voting is a constant drumbeat of the “Big Lie” MAGA world, and will no doubt be even bigger in the post-2024 election world of conspiracies if Trump should lose next month. The Trump campaign via an email from Lara Trump claimed that “Experts are saying that as many as 2.7 million illegals could vote in November.” No, no they are not, it’s a myth

The mainstreaming of literal white nationalist conspiracies where a major Presidential advisor is willing to repeat them proudly in front of cameras should be worrying. NAACP’s Griggs, always a positive and proactive man tells me that "we will win by re-registering.”
