Three separate protesters stood and called for an end to the bloodshed in Gaza, calling the Senator guilty of supporting genocide and taking money from AIPAC, the American-Israeli lobby. The protesters were quickly removed from the event, no word yet if any charges were laid against them (I'm doubtful). Sen. Kaine continued on only briefly recognizing the activists, thanking them for only interrupting his portion of the speeches given, as he "was the one that signed up for it." He also agreed for the want of a ceasefire, and the release of the hostages.
Hampton Roads for Palestine held a protest off campus, nearly a mile away before the start of Sen. Kaine’s speech.
The event otherwise was well attended for a Senate campaign event. Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander, Congressman Bobby Scott, Kaine's wife fmr. VA Sec of Education Anne Holton and others spoke before Sen Kaine took the stage. The overwhelming message of the event was not to vote for Trump, or the Republicans that want to roll back rights even farther, such as abortion. Sen. Kaine spoke specifically of his years of work as a lawyer working for Civil Rights in Virginia before he sran for Mayor of Richmond, VA.
